The Touch

Listen, my friend. This I must tell you.

Our Thomas, my twin,

has our family perplexed, even astounded.

We were brought up to be skeptics.

Our Father, an adamant Sadducee,

has always proclaimed, Life after death

is not in Scripture.

That is how our family sees it.

To my surprise, my brother joins

the motley gang of Jesus followers,

only to be disillusioned 

when their leader is crucified. 

Thomas returns home brokenhearted.

But today he is smiling.

He draws me close,

holding up his weatherworn hands,

and whispers,

I touched Him.

He is alive.
