Brooklyn (2015).Brooklyn (2015)

"I'm away to America," says a very young Eilis.  Her sister had connected her with an Irish priest in Brooklyn, and so off she went, leaving behind her sister Rose, her widowed mother, and her parochial life in a small Irish village set in 1952.  Homesickness hit hard.  A letter from home and an Irish night at the parish put Eilis in tears.  Then she met an Italian boy named Tony, who brought her new life and love.  But as with so many immigrant stories, her old life in Ireland and her new life in America collided in complicated and unexpected ways.  She returns to Ireland for what she thinks will be a brief visit, and in one scene observes, "I had forgotten what it's like here."  Is that good or bad?  Should she stay in Ireland with her mother or return to Tony and America?  Just where is her home and her life now?  The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Colm Tóibín.  It premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation, and has won numerous awards, including nominations for three Academy Awards.
